KINDS OF SNOW
by Su Smallen

36. Depth of Snow
What one eye sees and the different what the other eye sees are made to focus on one point. “Look, look,” is what we ask of our companions.

39. Needling Snow
Snow needles
we don’t want
touch there
is no breath
to say
enough
breath only
for breath

45. Butoh Snow
Bright carrots, black coal, and brittle
Sticks lower themselves into the earth
As if into a scalding bath

46. Snow Harlequin
Blue paper heart.
Tear it in half.
Press below each eye.

53. Snow that Stacks like Vertebrae
We breath up the front of our spine,
Down the back of our spine.
How little we know our own spines.

55. Snow, What is a Dream?
A kite to gall or glide,
A glass to cut or cup.

59. Snow In Flight
We watch, so many films flashing at once.
We brighten the ponds and rivers below.
We keep our own narratives close.

60. Striking Snow
The past curtained off, the scenes struck. And the future? We are caught in snapping velvet seats, turning our programs over and over. The inserts have fluttered. The sloping floor.
