Midway Journal accepts submissions of aesthetically ambitious work that invokes the colliding and converging energies of the fairgrounds. We strongly encourage writers to read a few issues of the journal before submitting.
We accept submissions between January 1 and May 31 annually only. Work received outside of this time period will not be read.
We are now accepting submissions through our online submission manager: http://midwayjournal.submishmash.com/submit.
Writers are welcome to submit ONCE during each reading period. Please allow a 6–9 month response time before inquiring about work.
There are no page limits or word counts set for individual submissions. Simultaneous submissions accepted. Previously published work is not accepted.
Poetry:
Please send 3-5 poems in a single document with each poem beginning on a new page (see what we like in Midway Poetry). Poetry manuscripts should be single-spaced.
Prose:
Please send 1 piece of fiction (see Midway Fiction), or 2 pieces of flash, or sudden, fiction, or 1 piece of creative nonfiction (see Midway Nonfiction). Prose manuscripts should be double-spaced.
NOTE: We select the subsequent year's publishing material from each submissions period. The publication schedule is devised after the close of the submissions period (June) and before the start of the new publication year beginning in October.
